Game Recaps and Stats
Below is a recap of each game played, plus game stats.
Week 4 – Game Recap – Jacksonville @ Lincoln
Team | 1st Quarter | 2nd Quarter | 3rd Quarter | 4th Quarter | Final |
Clemson | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Railers | 8 | 14 | 6 | 7 | 35 |
The Lincoln Railers 5th grade youth football had their best all around game against visiting Jacksonville. All three phases (offense, defense, special teams) played outstanding football as the Railers beat Clemson 35-0.
The Railers 3 headed rushing attack was in perfect form led by Dylan Singleton, who rushed for 114 yards on just 3 carries. He also manged to get in the end zone twice. One of his three runs went for 82 yards. Stephen Gleason, had 106 yards, on 5 carries, plus also scored two rushing touchdowns. Seth Tungate manged to rush for 79 yards and got in the end zone once. All three runningbacks should thank their offensive linemen for opening holes for them to follow through. Without them, the rushing attack would not be as good.
On defense, the Railers swarmed to ball and making tackles. The defense looked like one we have been accustomed to over the last several year’s as the Lincoln defenders swarmed the Jacksonville ball carriers. Leading the way were inside linebackers Chandler Confer and Stephen Gleason, who both had 7 tackles each. Confer also had sack and a fumble recovery, while Gleason had a sack and interception. Cade Tanner and Kegan Ferguson both manged 3 tackles each. There were several Railers defenders that had two tackles each.
Special teams looked great with Karson Bonaparte kicking a few extra points.
Next week, the Railers play the Springfield Wildcats. This is going to be huge game as both teams have been waiting all season to play it.
Week 3 – Game Recap – Railers @ Chatham (white)
Team | 1st Quarter | 2nd Quarter | 3rd Quarter | 4th Quarter | Final |
Railers | 8 | 8 | 14 | 8 | 38 |
Titans | 6 | 0 | 6 | 6 | 6 |
The Lincoln Railers 5th grade youth football got back on track by crushing the Chatham white team 38 to 6. The Railers dominated on both sides of the ball.
The offense was led by Seth (lighting) Tungate, who rushed for 162 yards on just 6 carries, plus one rushing touchdown. Stephen (thunder) Gleason, also contributed to the two headed rushing attack, by rushing for 157 yards on 5 carries, plus got in the end zone twice.
On defense, the Railers played hard nose football. Defensive coordinator Ryan Ferguson decided to try something different this week by removing the safety from the lineup and adding another linebacker to the mix. With Chandler Confer and Stephen Gleason playing next to each other at inside linebacker, they were able to account for 21 tackles. Confer had 11, while Gleason had 10. Nose tackle Nolan Yates played a great game as he was constantly in the Chatham White’s backfield disrupting the offense. He managed to get 8 tackles, while making his presence felt.
The Railer special teams came up big with Keagan Ferguson returning a kick for a 64 yard touchdown score. Place kicker Karson Bonaparte made 4 extra point attempts, adding an extra 8 points to the team’s point total.
Next Saturday, Lincoln plays Jacksonville at Eaton Field at 1:30.
Week 2 – Game Recap – Railers @ Chatham (red)
Team | 1st Quarter | 2nd Quarter | 3rd Quarter | 4th Quarter | Final |
Railers | 0 | 0 | 8 | 0 | 8 |
Titans | 6 | 0 | 6 | 6 | 18 |
After winning 17 games in roll dating back two seasons, the 5th Grade Railers finally lost a football game. The team lost it’s focus as the offense had way to many penalties to overcome against a good Chatham football team. The Railers 3 headed rushing attack was able to move the ball on the ground, but untimely penalties kept moving the offense backwards.
On defense, the Railer defenders were in the right place most of the time to make the tackle, but for some reason they weren’t able wrap the ball carrier up and bring him down.
Stephen Gleason lead the Railer offense in rushing with a 135 yards on 15 carriers, plus scored the team’s lone touchdown. On defense, Dylan Singleton and Chandler Confer lead the team in tackles with four each.
The Railers don’t play again until Saturday, September 7th against the Chatham White team. Hopefully they can use the time to correct mental mistakes and get back on track.
Week 1 – Game Recap – Rockets @ Railers
Team | 1st Quarter | 2nd Quarter | 3rd Quarter | 4th Quarter | Final |
Railers | 6 | 18 | 6 | 7 | 37 |
Rockets | 8 | 8 | 0 | 0 | 16 |
The Lincoln Railers 5th grade football team kicked off the season with a win over the Rochester Rockets 37-16. The first half wasn’t very pretty as the Railers had several penalties and fumbles on the offensive side of the ball. Even so, they were able to score 24 points in the first half thanks to their trio of runningbacks. On defense they gave up 16 points in the 1st half against the Rockets.
In the second half, things looked much better on both sides of the ball as the Lincoln offense was able to finally get going with two long runs from Seth(lighting) Tungate, who had 8 carries for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Stephen (thunder) Gleason, also had two touchdowns and ran for 110 yards on 9 carries. Dylan (energizer bunny) Singleton had a a good game as well he picked up 60 yards on 7 carries, plus one rushing TD. Overall the Railers rushing attack looked good.
The defense also picked it up in the second half by not allowing any touchdowns to be scored, which is what they have been doing for the last four seasons. Playing strong defense and not allowing the opposing offense to get in the end zone is what Railer football is all about. The defense was led by defensive end Chandler Confer who racked up 8 tackles. Nose tackle Nolan Yeates dominated the Rockets offensive line by getting through quickly and making tackles in the backfield. By the end of the game, he had 7 tackles. The biggest play on defense came at the end of the first half when Dylan Singleton was able to pick off a pass and go all the way in for a score. That play was big because it put the Railers up at by 8 going into the half.
Although the first half wasn’t up to Railers standards, the team came through in the second half. All the coaches were proud to see them work so hard in the second half. Hopefully, that effort will be what the we see from the team moving forward.
On a side note, our prayers and thoughts go out to JR Lynn, who was injured with a leg injury late in the first half. We hope he gets better soon. We all are thinking of you.
